Chapter 4

The club was underground, easy to miss, discreet. The four of them climbed out of the car along with a few of Anthony's friends, girls full of bubbly conversation that made Idonia think of chirpy birds. She tossed her long black hair over her cinnamon shoulders and pulled down the mini skirt that rose up over the curve of her ass while she was sitting down. Alton palmed her possessively. They pushed through the crowded dance floor like regular people, unnoticed in the dark din. Techno music pulsed, lights flashing in tandem, and the atmosphere was unlike anything she had ever experienced before.

The music seemed to crescendo until it boomed through her body like a crashing wave. She found herself getting caught up in the excitement. "What's the name of this place?" she shouted over the music. They were headed to the VIP, which was a discreet room just above the dancefloor with tinted windows so its patrons could look down into the mass below.

Hollis had reserved the room for just their crew in advance. Once the doors closed, it was like being in a bubble. "Oh, this isn't as much fun," Idonia pouted, making him laugh.

"You want to be down there?"

"I've never been to a rave club before. That looks awesome!"

A skinny redhead with a perpetual smile flashed too-bright eyes at her and said, "Oh, doll, they'll eat you alive down there. They're hopped up on some many E pills it's like a sex pit instead of a mosh pit."

Idonia bit her lip and gazed down at the dark, shifting mass of people occasionally illuminated by flashes of neon lights and glow sticks. She wasn't really surprised moments later when Alton sidled up behind her and put his arms around her. "I got something for you," he whispered in a sing-song voice in her ear.

"What is it this time?" she warily asked. "Better not be nothing French."

"Open your mouth," he instructed. She did as he requested and felt a small pill land on her tongue. "Chew it up." It tasted acrid like aspirins. He immediately handed her a drink to wash it down. "Give it a minute." He smiled at her and made his way back to table where Hollis and Anthony were playing drinking games with Anthony's groupies.

Idonia laughed and leaned her forehead against the glass window, knowing nobody looking up could see her. It was like being a god, being able to watch all those people and having them wonder what you were upstairs doing. She giggled to herself. It was like being one with the universe, more like being a part of the collective consciousness that the rest of them weren't quite evolved enough to tap into.

She looked back at her crew, feeling the E start to take effect. She knew that was what he had given her, her sexy man. Her Sex King. Alton. The lights were toying with her eyes, taking the room from white to pink to blue as the colors swirled. She walked over to the group and sat on the edge of Alton's lap, and the contact felt phenomenal.
